Steve has always been interested in landscapes, whether building or maintaining them. He started his first landscaping business at 16 and has developed the business to where it is today — Victoria’s largest and most-respected landscape-service company. Steve has an economics degree from the University of Victoria, and a background in civil engineering that ultimately led him to a degree in landscape architecture from the University of British Columbia. Through sporting and professional endeavours, Steve travelled the world. After returning to the Island in 1998, he started Acacia Landscape and incorporated the business in 2001. The business has steadily grown ever since and continues to set the standard for the industry in Victoria.
Unlike most landscape architects, Steve has the hands-on construction and maintenance experience that he feels makes him a much more effective designer and project manager. Steve believes that you must have a plan in order to create something truly special and life-altering. He believes in doing things right the first time and looking at the costs over the long run in order to minimize costs over the life of a project. He believes that done properly, a landscape should be an appreciating asset, rather than the more common situation in which the asset is continually depreciating as a result of poor planning, installation, and maintenance practices.
